Foundation Installations in Farnham, Haslemere and the surrounding areas
JS Groundworks provides a locally trusted service for domestic and commercial foundation installations in Surrey and Hampshire. Installing foundations remains one of the most frequent, and important, services undertaken by our groundwork contractors. Laid in line with meticulous calculations, foundations not only provide a solid base for the remainder of a construction project, they also eliminate the chances of subsidence or collapse. If handled poorly, foundations represent immediate and long-term hazards that cause a huge amount of stress and disruption. They also cost a significant amount of money to rectify.
As a result, we cannot overstate the importance of choosing groundwork contractors with a proven track record in foundation installations. Whether in our hometown of Bordon or neighbouring locations like Farnborough, Farnham, Guildford, Haslemere and Petersfield, JS Groundworks has a well-earned reputation throughout Surrey and Hampshire for the installation of faultless foundations.
With a collective industry experience of more than 40 years, our groundwork contractors have installed foundations of every kind multiple times. Below, we have provided an introductory guide to the most common types of foundations we lay.

With a width between 450mm and 600mm, and a depth of 100mm, we design strip foundations to support load-bearing walls. The final dimensions vary depending on the structure being built and the number of storeys it has. Made using concrete, these foundations run in a continuous strip beneath the wall above.
Strip designs usually fall into the category of shallow foundation installations. Where necessary, however, our groundwork contractors install deeper designs if the need to dig further for suitable ground presents itself.
Our clients in Farnham, Haslemere, Petersfield and the neighbouring areas can also benefit from wide strip foundations. These installations spread the load over a wider area, making them an ideal option for soft soils.
Trench-fill foundation installations remain one of the most common and cost-effective solutions in the Surrey and Hampshire region. For this type of foundation, our groundwork contractors excavate to a depth that provides sufficient load-bearing qualities. We then dig an entire network of trenches at this depth before filling it with concrete.
If a location has nearby trees that might pose a risk of compromised foundations in the future, we reinforce the concrete with steel for increased resilience.
JS Groundworks uses raft foundations for expansive and/or weak soils such as peat or soft clay. The name ‘raft’ signifies the fact that these foundation installations let a property ‘float’ on the soil.
Consisting of a large concrete slab poured by our groundwork contractors, raft foundations help to spread the load of the structure above.
These foundation installations utilise columns driven deep into the ground. Approximately 2 to 3 metres in length, we join each individual column via a reinforced concrete beam. We then build a suspended ground floor on top of this structure. This process creates an exceptionally strong foundation with the ability to handle the weight of large buildings.
The groundwork contractors at JS Groundworks either construct these columns on site in Farnham, Haslemere, Petersfield and the surrounding areas, or pre-fabricate them ahead of time. Our approach depends on the specifics of the job at hand.
